Can you believe they do things differently in Europe than in the United States? Obviously, this causes us to miss several things we take for granted back home!
- Free public restrooms! It costs us nearly 50cents every time we use a public bathroom. Jenesa has gone so many times that we deserve a discount.
- Europeans do not serve water at meals. You must request it. And, be sure you request the right kind of water or you'll end up with bubbles!
- TV shows in English. We tried to watch CSI the other night, but Horatio was speaking French or German or Dutch.....so we went to sleep!
- Signs. Menus. Newspapers. We can't read a damned thing! I wish I would've taken my foreign language classes a bit more seriously in high school. Who knew?
- Credit cards. We haven't been able to use them very often over here. This is a cash society and I hate carrying lots of cash everywhere I go.
- Coins. 1 cent. 2 cent. 5 cent. 10 cent. 20 cent. 50 cent. $1 euro coin. $2 euro coin. Too many coins to keep track of in Europe!
- We have to ration the toilet paper everywhere we go. Tissues and washcloths are pretty limited too!
- Playing charades is no fun! That's what happens when we must communicate with people who do not speak English. I'm tired of playing this game of gestures!
- Air conditioners? Europe obviously has never heard of this invention yet. You basically open a window and pray for a breeze!
- Fast food? Nope! We're hesitant to sit down at a restaurant over here because we know what happens. It takes forever to get served and be fed. This is the European culture. Eating is a time to relax and be social. 90 minutes is as fast as it gets!
